The Black House
THE BLACK HOUSE, MALLAIG BHEAG, PH41 4QN
This is my home. My idea is simply to share it with a few people every year, hopefully making it a special place for us all. I have tried to make it a pleasant space and it comes with a modest library, paintings and artworks and is very roomy.
It has a main bedroom with its own bathroom. There is a bunkroom which is equally spacious with two large comfy bunks, certainly big enough to share and a desk. The main room has a day bed so the house comfortably sleeps a minimum of five, but could very easily accommodate more on camp beds/mattresses.
More pictures can be seen here.
The basic ethos is that I would leave the house exactly as it is and trust everyone to look after it and enjoy it. It’s not a rental property, it’s my home.
The house is in a splendid elevated location with wide views over Loch Nevis and west to Skye and the Cuillins. From here I have often seen whales, dolphins, porpoise, seals, both types of eagle and deer graze right up to the house frequently. It’s as beautiful in Autumn and Winter as it is in Spring or Summer.
It is ideally placed for exploring the area including Skye which is a 40 minute ferry ride away. The ferry (£29 return with a car and four pax) leaves from the village which is a few minutes walk down the hill and as such is an easy day out. Ferries also cross to Knoydart (several times daily) and of course the islands of Eigg Rum Muck and Canna.
There are countless shell white beaches nearby and endless pretty walks up hills, along lochs or if you’re really keen Ben Nevis is not far away.
The house is £350 per day and the minimum stay is 5 days.
